Bajro Vejo and Noura Zeggui have dreamed of owning a home since they first immigrated to America. They married in 2014, had their beautiful daughter, Ava, and started working hard to make that dream come true. Bajro, from Bosnia Hercegovina, working as a taxi driver, and Noura, from Morocco, working as a hotel guest room attendant.
Bajro and Noura wanted a safe and stable environment for Aya, and their home was no longer meeting their needs. It was in a constant state of repair and had dangerous pest problems, so Bajro and Noura made the decision to buy a new home. But like so many Americans, they realized that owning a home was an unaffordable reality.
That’s when Noura found out about Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas. Her sister told her about the organization and how they can help people just like them. Noura decided to apply for a home, only to discover that the Homeownership applications were closed. For the first time, Bajro and Noura felt their dreams of home fading – but they never lost hope.
Instead, Noura enrolled in the Financial Peace Project, a program offered by Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas. During the courses, Noura learned the importance of havin
g organized finances, and soon after, they started saving so they could purchase their home. When they applied again, they were selected as our 120th homeowners. Bajro, Noura, and Aya will now have a chance to create their own legacy in our community, and thanks to Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas, they have now fulfilled their dreams of becoming homeowners.
