Monica moved to Las Vegas from Los Angeles when she recognized there were better opportunities for her here. Growing up, Monica had a strained relationship with her parents due to the challenges they were facing in their own lives. Although she had experienced major losses and hardships over the years, her determination kept her going. Monica was optimistic that moving to Las Vegas would finally give her family connection and support.
She began focusing on herself and strengthening her relationship with God. When she fell on hard times, she remained steadfast in her faith. She asked God for a blessing that would allow her to support herself financially and the means to provide for her basic needs. Soon after, she found a great job with the State of Nevada.
Despite her efforts, she did not have a stable place to live and sometimes spent her nights in her car or with friends. She searched for an apartment to lease on her own but was turned away despite having a stable job, money saved, and good credit because she did not make at least three times the rent based on her current pay.
She was attending school full-time and in the process of completing her bachelor’s degree in hopes of advancing in her career. She enjoys sewing and working out. Working out has helped her manage her stress and anxiety through the adversities she’s experienced. As a little girl, her grandmother taught her how to sew, a memory she continues to cherish. Her passion for sewing has helped her realize her dream of becoming a clothing designer. She feels that each day is a step in the right direction toward her future and her dreams of one day having a family and traveling to other countries to give back to those in need.
