For Jose and Betzaida, the dream of a safe, stable home has been a long journey. After enduring years of challenges, including domestic violence, health struggles, and unsafe housing, this was their second application to Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas. Their hope is that this opportunity will finally allow their family to have a place they can truly call home.
Betzaida has lived in Clark County for 20 years, and Jose for 25. Since arriving in Las Vegas, they have built a family rooted in faith, resilience, and dedication. They attend Saint Peter Catholic Church in Henderson, where they teach their children the importance of tradition, respect, and faith.

Their journey has not been easy. Betzaida survived domestic violence from a previous relationship while pregnant and sought safety in a local shelter. She has faced PTSD, fibromyalgia, and anxiety, while raising three children with unwavering love and care. Jose has been a steadfast partner, providing protection, guidance, and support to their three children, ages 20,15, and 7. Together, they have navigated financial insecurity, health complications, and repeated housing instability, all while maintaining hope for their family’s future.
Their current rental home has leaks and mold, causing constant respiratory issues for the children, and rising rent has created ongoing stress and uncertainty. Owning a Habitat home would provide a safe, healthy environment where the children could thrive and the family could finally have stability.
The family enjoys spending time outdoors, attending cultural and church events, volunteering, and supporting one another in everyday life. Over the past five years, one of their proudest accomplishments was Jose becoming a U.S. citizen, a milestone that required years of dedication and perseverance. Their goals for the future include homeownership, continued education, and giving their children opportunities they never had, including stability, health, and a bright future.
Owning a Habitat home would be life changing. It would give Jose, Betzaida, and their children the stability, security, and peace of mind they have long dreamed of. More than just a house, it would be a sanctuary where love, resilience, and faith can flourish — a place they can proudly call their own.
