Diana’s journey to homeownership is defined by resilience, determination, and a deep commitment to her children. She first learned about Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas in 2022 while staying in a family shelter, where she was seeking stability and a fresh start. At the time, she was rebuilding her independence. Although she applied for the homeownership program in 2024 and was not selected, Diana remained committed to her goal—returning to apply again when the time was right.
Seventeen years ago, Diana moved from Northern California to Henderson, Nevada, hoping to build a better life and raise a family. Over time, she faced significant personal challenges and a serious health diagnosis—a rapidly growing brain tumor that required emergency surgery and months of rehabilitation. Despite these obstacles, she remained determined, regaining her strength while continuing to care for her children.
Over the years, Diana and her children moved frequently in search of stability. In 2022, an urgent situation led them to leave their home and seek temporary shelter. With the support of community partners, she secured more stable housing later that year, where they have remained since. Today, while continuing to monitor her health, Diana works as a school crossing guard, volunteers in her community, and enjoys baking, photography, and spending time outdoors with her children. She has also completed parenting classes, support groups, and financial education courses to strengthen her family’s future.
For Diana, homeownership represents safety, stability, and a new beginning. A Habitat home would allow her children to remain in their schools, continue important medical care, and grow up in a consistent, supportive environment. She looks forward to building alongside them—creating not just a house, but a place where her family can truly thrive.
